South Carolina Walk to School Day

The next South Carolina Walk to School Day will take place on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. Contact your School Outreach Coordinator today to start planning your event. Click here to register!

There are many ways to participate in South Carolina Walk to School day. Your school may plan an event in which students:

  • Walk TO school

  • Walk TO school from a meeting location (such as a grocery store, park or church parking lot)

  • Walk AT school

  • Walk FROM school

No matter what the event type, the goal is to emphasize how walking and biking are healthy and fun activities.  SC Walk to School Day can also help initiate conversations with your students and their families about:

  • Increasing physical activity and enhancing health

  • Reducing traffic congestion, and improving air quality

  • Teaching pedestrian, bicycle, and personal safety skills

  • Encouraging community involvement in Safe Routes to School programs

Have questions? Contact your School Outreach Coordinator. Also, check out our Resources Page for event materials and templates.

Event History:

The South Carolina SRTS program launched its first South Carolina Walk to School Day event in the spring of 2012. Since then, the number of schools participating has steadily risen. Scroll down for a map of schools that have participated in SC Walk to School Day since 2012.

Walk to School Days are a great way for parents, students, school personnel, and other community members to directly experience the trip to school on foot as they walk and bike with students. We hope you will join us for South Carolina Walk to School Day 2018.
