National

Become a UnitedHealth “Hero” and win a grant
UnitedHealthcare and Youth Service America have teamed up to offer $1,000 service-learning project grants for youth-led programs focusing on the prevention of childhood obesity. Children ages 5 to 25 are expected to help volunteer to run the projects under the guidance of teachers, service-learning coordinators and other students.

Apply for a Love Your Veggies Grant
Hidden Valley Ranch has offered 10 US public elementary schools a $20,000 nutrition grant every year over the past few years to help promote the increased availability and consumption of fresh produce in school meals. Applicants are judged on “need, innovation, greatest likelihood of sustainable impact on the students they are serving, and potential for community involvement.”

ING Run For Something Better - ING has developed a school-based running program in partnership with the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). NASPE has created fitness activity plans based on the National Standards for Physical Eductaion. ING Run For Something Better is currently accepting applications for a minimum of fifty (50) grants up to $2,500 for each school that desires to establish a school based running program or expand an existing one.

National Center for Safe Routes to School Mini-Grants
The National Center for Safe Routes to School periodically awards mini-grants. Mini-grants fund activities that range from the nuts and bolts that help start or sustain a program to new ideas that explore the range of benefits of safe walking and bicycling.

Action for Healthy Kids Grants
Through its many partnerships, Action for Healthy Kids offers multiple grant opportunities throughout the year to fund healthy nutrition and physical activity improvements.

Dream Machine Recycle Rally
As part of the Dream Machine Recycle Rally, students are encouraged to collect non-alcoholic beverage containers (plastic bottles and aluminum cans) and bring them into school to earn points redeemable with local businesses and/or national retailers for rewards such as sporting goods, electronics, gift cards, educational events, and music, books and videos. The more a school recycles the more rewards it can earn! In addition, there are new program contests, rewards and incentives updated frequently!

PTA Healthy Lifestyles Grant
The National PTA Healthy Lifestyles Program promotes good nutrition and regular physical activity in order to address the nation's childhood obesity epidemic. PTAs can play an important role in increasing physical activity and improving nutrition in the school community by engaging families, teachers, administrators, and students in programs and activities that encourage the school community to be active and to eat healthier foods. The National PTA will award up to 10 grants, and up to $1,000 each!

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation
The Alliance works to address childhood obesity by implementing changes in the environments that affect a child's health. Their website offers a rolling list of local and national funding sources. You will need to create an account and join the Healthy Schools Program in order to access the complete list.

The Center for Health and Health Care in Schools
A nonpartisan policy and program resource center at George Washington University's School of Public Health and Health Services. The Center's mission is to strengthen the well-being of children and youth. Their website offers a continuous, updated list of funding opportunities dealing with health and health care in schools.

Bikes Belong
The Bikes Belong Grant Program awards collaborations including non-profit organizations, businesses, and government entities to fund bicycle infrastructure or advocacy projects including paved bike paths, lanes, and rail-trails as well as mountain bike trails, bike parks, BMX facilities, and large-scale bicycle advocacy initiatives.

South Carolina

Champions of the Environment
SC DHEC rewards projects that help the environment. South Carolina's K-12 students, teachers and environmental educators can apply for up to a $2000 grant. Project ideas can include Air Quality programs such as promoting walking and biking as alternatives to vehicle transportation.

All Health Team
The All-Health Team are looking for youth who make a positive impact on the health of their community. Schools can win up to $5000 for their projects.

Greenville Women Giving is committed to strengthening our community through the collective resources of our members by awarding high-impact grants ranging from $40,000 (minimum) to $100,000 in five areas: arts and culture, education, environment, health, and human services.

USDA's Rural Development Community Facilities Program
USDA's Rural Development Community Facilities program offers grants to towns of up to 20,000 in population to assist in the development of community facilities for health care, public safety, and community and public safety.
